Burwash Common and Weald Residents Association

Text Box: February 2020
It is our Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, 4 March – at the Pavilion, starting at 7:30 pm. Come along and have your say on any local matters of interest or concern to you. The agenda and papers for the meeting will be circulated to BCWRA members shortly.

As I mentioned last month there will be a speaker from UK Power Networks at the AGM. See the poster for this meeting elsewhere in the parish magazine.

Many of you will remember the street party that was organised to celebrate the wedding of Harry and Meghan. So much food! Anyway, we have decided to have another one, this time to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. The party will take place on Friday, 8 May. More details will follow shortly but you might want to put this additional date in your diary now.

At the time of writing we are still waiting for Royal Mail to put up the replacement post box in the lay-by on the Stonegate road. We are pushing them on this so, by the time you read this, it may be up and running! One can but hope.

I hear on the grapevine that the old nursing home site on the corner of the A265 and the Stonegate road has finally been sold. We are keeping an eye out for planning applications (none yet) but I have been told by a near neighbour that the existing building is to be retained and converted into flats. A fair bit of ground has also been cleared at the back of the site. It will be good to see this site developed, back in use and – hopefully – properly maintained.

Last month I floated the idea of a New Year’s Eve party at the Pavilion at the end of 2020. Nobody has come back yet either for or against this idea. This would take a bit of organising and there would also be some costs, so we need a good indication of a reasonable level of support if this is to go ahead.

Membership of the RA is open to all who live in either Burwash Common or Burwash Weald. It costs a very modest £5 per household per year and you can pay by cash, cheque, standing order or e-banking. It is NOT necessary to participate actively in any of the work undertaken by the RA (although volunteers are always welcomed of course)! If you are not yet a member and would like to join the 91 households that are, please contact me, Lindsay Green – Secretary (07775 862846), Jackie Bird – Chair (01435 883660) or Peter Toll – Treasurer (01435 883433). Any of us will happily relieve you of a fiver!

If you have any items of local interest that you would like us to post, please let any member of the committee know – their names and contact details are on the web site. If you wish to e-mail us about any matter, then please note that our e-mail address is bcwra2017@gmail.com.
